Gareth is an Associate Director at RCA Regeneration Limited and brings with him experience from over 20 years of working as an architect within the construction industry. A drive to achieve success across the full spectrum of an architect’s role, from blank page to completed building, has resulted in a broad knowledge of building design, construction and use that can be brought to each unique project.
After qualifying as an Architect, his early career was spent working across a variety of sectors which included residential, commercial, education and custodial projects both in the private and public sectors. During the last decade Gareth has taken the design lead on projects within the residential sector; creating housing schemes for private, developer and social clients across all project work stages throughout the country.
A keen proponent of BIM software and low energy design Gareth is always keen to embrace the changing face of the construction industry. Gareth has worked for a number of housebuilders and has a keen understanding of the need for a commercial approach to layout design, balanced with the need to create a saleable product and a strong ‘sense of place’ to new residential developments
Outside of work Gareth has a busy family life and holds keen interests in music, photography and sport. His management skills are put to good use running a mini rugby team at Worcester Rugby Football Club.
I have over 20 years experience across a wide portion of the construction industry and have been a registered and chartered architect since 2006.
As a project leading architect I am equally comfortable when undertaking creative, strategic, technical and reflective exercises and particularly enjoy the process of assisting developers of many kinds through the development process. The prospect of adding value for a wide range of project stakeholders through the creation of high quality built environments is always an enjoyable challenge.
The opportunity to offer an architectural design service within a wider planning and development consultancy will allow RCA Regeneration to provide a joined up service which brings real benefits to our clients in a number of areas of the design and planning process.
I was keen, during my time in higher education, to gain real world experience of architectural design and would make sure that holidays were spent enhancing my design skills in architectural practice in Worcestershire and South Yorkshire.
After graduating from the University of Sheffield as a qualified architect I started my professional career working in South Yorkshire undertaking publicly funded projects in the further education, higher education and custodial sectors alongside commercial developments. My nationwide involvement on these major projects was spread across all project work stages. These projects offered significant experience of both working with end user clients to realise their requirements through the building design and delivering the finished building in collaboration with a full design and construction team.
A return to the west midlands in 2012 bought a change in focus toward the residential sector at a variety of scales and with various client types. Projects for a number of registered housing providers and commercial developers offered the opportunity to assist in the provision of affordable and open market housing through major urban renewal projects. Private commissions for large extension and one off houses provided, often unique, creative challenges and the opportunity to assist clients from outside the construction industry deliver their dream homes. And recent experience of working in the retirement living sector on private and social housing schemes afforded key insights into this growing sector.
I have considerable experience of working in offices that utilise a Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflow. I am committed to taking advantage of the design communication, design quality and production efficiency benefits that a three (or more) dimensional design process allows. I have a keen interest in passive, low energy building design and strive to advance my design knowledge and capabilities to better facilitate the move to a low carbon built environment.
As a longstanding member of the RIBA I am committed to providing a high quality architectural design service offering multiple and wide ranging benefits to end users, developers and the wider community through an ever improving built environment.
